Preseason Matchup to Showcase Golden Eagles' New Offensive Scheme

Mason Says Raiders Will Focus on Fundamentals

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) football coach Derek Mason will address the media on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming matchup against Tennessee Tech University (TTU) in the season opener.

The game, scheduled for Thursday, August 25, at Johnny "Red" Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, will be the first opportunity for fans to see the Golden Eagles' new offensive scheme under first-year head coach Dewayne Alexander.

"We're excited to get the season started and show our fans what we've been working on," Mason said. "Tennessee Tech is a well-coached team with a lot of talent, so we know we'll have our hands full."

Mason said the Raiders will focus on fundamentals in the season opener.

"We want to be sound in all three phases of the game," Mason said. "We want to run the ball effectively, protect the quarterback, and make tackles on defense."

The Golden Eagles are coming off a 5-6 season in 2021, while the Raiders finished 3-9.

Kickoff for Thursday's game is set for 6 p.m. CT.
