Bengals' Joe Burrow Signs Record-Breaking $275 Million Contract Extension

Deal Will Pay QB an Average of $55 Million Annually, Surpassing Other Top Earners

CINCINNATI (AP) - Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

The deal, which will pay Burrow an average of $55 million per year, includes over $219 million guaranteed. This puts him ahead of other top quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Josh Allen in terms of average annual salary.

The Bengals' quarterback market shifted in Burrow's favor in late July when quarterback Deshaun Watson signed a fully guaranteed $230 million contract with the Cleveland Browns. This increased the benchmark for top quarterback contracts.

Burrow has been a key player for the Bengals since being drafted first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He led the team to its first Super Bowl appearance in over 30 years in the 2022 season, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Bengals hope that this contract extension will keep Burrow in Cincinnati for the long term and help the team continue to compete for championships.
